2022.01.23 13:14 _-_Yuki_-_ Why is the word Black capitalized?
Context: I am not American, and English is not my first language. This is a genuine question and I mean absolutely NO disrespect. The other day I was in a forum and I got called out by an American (not sure if this is relevant, so I am adding this just in case it is) for not capitalizing the word Black (as in the race, not the color). I genuinely asked why it is capitalized, got called a racist and was banned from the discussion. Recently I have been seeing the word capitalized in many places but I never asked again because I was too afraid to ask and being called a racist again (which I assure you I am 100% not). I am pretty sure that it isn't because of grammar (like in races should be capitalized) because the person who called me out capitalized the word Black but not white. So I would like to ask why it is capitalized, and if other races are as well. Thank you all in advance

2022.01.23 13:14 sadgrl-badgrl What to do in March in BC?
I (32 F) will be travelling to BC in March with my kids (11 and 8). We’re coming from the Greater Toronto Area and we’ll be staying for a week. It’ll be our first time in BC.
We are definitely spending some time in Vancouver and Whistler, and maybe Victoria and Tofino.
What would be some fun activities for kids to do? So far, my list includes the Capilano bridge, the Sea to sky gondola, and Science World, but I’m hoping to get a few more suggestions.
Also, maybe even some fun activities for me that are also kid friendly. I love the outdoors but don’t want do anything too risky with my little ones.
And finally, I’m hoping to get some suggestions for unique accommodations. Maybe like a night in a cabin in a cool location? Or maybe a camper?
Thanks in advance! Can’t wait to finally see your beautiful province ☺️

2022.01.23 13:14 BilliamGilliam My SO says I’m delusional and it basically sent me into a downward spiral. I don’t know what is real anymore.
We haven’t had an easy few years, and that’s besides covid. She started relationships with men she met online over the last two years and refuses to admit it to me even though I saw many damning pictures, texts, and even got a bunch of hate DMs on twitter recently from one of her “exes” but I honestly thought things were getting better as of the last few months. Things felt better. She is gone a lot and I am not really a focus of hers, which is fine considering how I behave most of the time. Even if we had this crazy strong relationship it still seems like it wouldn’t work because of her inability to put anything before her own needs/desires. That being said I have been trying to change for the better and every time I feel like I get close to figuring out how to be a better person I am absolutely devastated by a goddamn wave of depression/anxiety/paranoia that is getting harder and harder to come back from. I am looking for help but this town has shit for therapists and being retired military means my options are pretty limited generally. My question is this: if I don’t know that I’m being delusional, and if she is right about all of the stuff I have a problem with being in my head, then what do I do? She is going to leave me, that I can’t stop, but if I am this delusional and this out of touch with reality what can I do? Who should I talk to? What do I tell them? I am having the hardest time of my life grapping with her telling me that. I don’t know how I can function if I was/am THIS wrong about my paranoid thoughts.
I can barely formulate thoughts anymore because I’m so consumed by this notion that I have been so very wrong and wrecked so very much. How do I move forward?

2022.01.23 13:14 Type1Diabadarse Rule Question: how can a flying shield work
So a player in my game has a returning weapon shield (They are an Artificer) , using sharpshooter they are able to do bonkers damage at level 3.. I've been trying to look in the books as to how it is doing up to 25 damage per attack.. it is doing more damage than an improvised weapon should but I can't get a look at his character sheet so I'm looking for anything that explains rule wise how the heck that it can do more damage than the barbarians greataxe
Need any advice or explanation that can be given, thanks!

2022.01.23 13:14 Superscoops I was bullied into killing a character in what was supposed to be session 0
I'm running a Strixhaven campaign with some friends that is loosely based on the book's campaign. For our session 0, I had all the players show up for 'orientation' and had a campus tour and played 'get to know you games'.
After that I let the players go to a bar where a few Silverquill students were a bit snobby to them. So one of my players threw a Magic Stone at him. I made it clear these were upperclassmen who would beat the snot out of them. They end up ccing them with Hold Person and Charm and go to leave. One of my players won't let it go and keeps trying to punch them.
The Silverquill student hits him with an Inkblade and ends up doing 18 damage, which was just enough to instantly kill him. When I realized this, I tried to say the attack was non lethal or that the damage was less ten what I said. The entire table, including the now dead player, bullied me into not going back.
Anyone else have a table like this? The tactics of my friends continue to confuse and terrify me.

2022.01.23 13:14 srirachaontherocks Is it normal for smells to be muted in the winter? (sorry...hypochondriac post here...haha)
My sinuses feel slightly dry - probably from the low humidity but otherwise I feel fine, no covid symptoms, etc (never had covid to my knowledge, if I did I was otherwise asymptomatic). I recently realized that I'm only smelling things at like half the intensity of what I used to. I practically have to stick my nose in a cup of coffee to smell it. I remember last spring I tried burning incense and couldn't because the smell was too strong and irritating - but now it's just a comfortable level of scent.
Since I can't remember when the change occured (could have been a week ago, could have been 10 months ago, could have been gradually over the last year), my asshole hypochondriac brain is SURE that I'm developing early onset parkinson's (loss of smell is sometimes one of the first symptoms), since I do have some risk factors for that (even though...it's a very rare disease before 40 or so, risk factors or not).
On the other hand, I had a few mild head hits mountain biking this year (including one a week ago), I think it'd be a stretch to call them concussions, but some broken axons in the smell regions could certainly explain why I'm experiencing what I'm experiencing. IDK, I don't expect to get my answers from this, but just wanted to post so I got my random anxieties off my chest.
